My previous life
On graduating from University College London, I joined the NHS National Training Scheme and qualified as an accountant (IPFA) in 1979. I then worked in financial management in a registered housing association in Cardiff and for Southampton City Council.
After moving to Woking in 1983, I had three children in four years, and while they were growing up I worked for 15 years in adult and community education, qualifying as a teacher, organising the programme and teaching a wide range of business and IT courses.
My life at Surrey Care Trust
I joined The Surrey Care Trust in January 1999, as Business Manager, and became Chief Executive three years later. It’s the sort of job that, as an accountant, you never imagine yourself doing! It’s very challenging, hugely varied and I’m still learning every day.
I know how fortunate I am to lead such a dedicated and enthusiastic staff team who really do ‘change lives’.
An interesting fact about me
Despite being an accountant, I love the creative arts, particularly literature, music and the theatre, and I am learning, very slowly, to play the piano.
