We are part of the Surrey Compact

Volunteers are vital for the Surrey Care Trust to run our different programmes and activities.

As an organisation committed to promoting the life-changing benefits of learning, education and skills training for people of all ages, we offer many volunteers the opportunity to develop new talents and to gain nationally-accredited recognition and qualifications.

Volunteering with Swingbridge

A volunteering scheme is at the heart of our Swingbridge programme. Our Swingbridge volunteers all learn basic boat-handling skills, some go on to qualify as skippers. Many are involved in the Swingbridge environmental work. People skills are also invaluable; for enthusing young people, for motivating the offenders who have work placements with Swingbridge; or in welcoming the many groups who join us for summer boat trips.

Volunteering with young people

We also value the contribution of volunteers who work with young people alongside staff at our learning centres, helping us to give high levels of one-to-one support.

Our mentoring service is provided by volunteer mentors and counselling by qualified counsellors seeking further professional development.

Helping with admin and fundraising

We also welcome volunteers to help with fundraising and to assist with admin at our office at Milford and tasks such as envelope stuffing and leaflet and poster distribution.

Some of our volunteers use their experience as a stepping stone to a new career; others, including many retired people simply want to make a contribution to local communities.
