THE STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE

Sixth formers from Sir William Perkins’s School on an environmental work day on Swingbridge2

‘It was a brilliant experience for the girls and me, and one I am sure we would like to repeat next year. The community work you do is amazing by the way’ – Ian Peel, Deputy Head of Sixth Form Sir William Perkins’s School

We welcome inquiries from youth organisations, schools, companies, individuals, groups of friends and families.

Swingbridge training courses can be adapted to meet different interests and ability levels.

The two boats together form an accredited training centre so we offer courses leading to National Community Boats Association qualifications as well as our own courses.

Whether you are looking for a special extracurricular or reward activity for young people, an engaging team-building or motivational activity for your company or organisation, professional boating training, or simply a fun day out with a difference, the Swingbridge team can cater for you.

Training courses we offer include:

One Day Boating Course

This is an ideal activity for team-building for young people and adults alike. Our volunteer trainers are a friendly crowd, skilled at sharing their knowledge and creating a welcoming, supportive atmosphere on our floating classroom.

The course covers all the basics of how to crew Swingbridge1, including hands-on instruction in driving to qualify for a Swingbridge Certificate of Achievement.

A one day boating skills course is also an excellent practical preparation for a canal boating holiday, or makes a great activity day with a difference for families or groups of friends.

There is a minimum charge of £350 for up to four people.Up to two additional places are available at a cost of £75 per person. In addition, young people must be accompanied by at least one leader or teacher from their school or group but there is no extra charge.

Special rates are available for charities and multi-programmes – please ask for details!

Boat Handling Course

This is a longer course and leads to an accredited award from the NCBA. Training is over two or three days. Cost £120 per person.

Certificate in Community Boat Management

This is a course over three days for people with previous experience of boats to gain an NCBA skipper’s qualification.
The cost is £250 per person.

We can also tailormake a training day to suit your requirements.
