Friendly, accessible, community-based and engaging – that is what our adult learning work is all about.
Our adult learning speciality is providing free “pop-up” courses in locations across Surrey encouraging people who didn’t get on in school or have been out of education for a long time, to take up learning again.
Learning can be transformative for people wanting to make a fresh start after a crisis in their lives, such as unemployment, illness, crime or family breakdown. We provide first-steps learning courses in a range of topics designed to have broad appeal including first aid, arts and crafts, cooking and budgeting.
Shelley was running a successful business when life threw her a curveball and her mental health deteriorated to the point where she found it hard to get out of bed.
Thanks to a pop-up jewellery course run by Surrey Care Trust, Shelley felt encouraged to explore other types of arts and crafts and now sells her own work. She also feels that she is now ready to go back to work and is working on her c.v. and preparing for interviews with a work coach.
“This course gave me a reason to get up and out. It’s not classic therapy but for me, the results are the same.
When you get in the zone creatively, it’s really quite healing – it allows your brain to relax and you forget your anxieties.” Shelley
