Families at Stanwell SureStart Children’s Centre are ready to get growing thanks to new garden planters and tools, made possible by a Better Neighbourhoods Grant from Spelthorne Borough Councillor, Susan Doran.
The Children’s Centre garden now offers opportunities for children to grow sense stimulating herbs and exciting and rewarding fruit and vegetables, in see-through planters that enable children to see what is happening in the soil below.
Centre Deputy Manager and Outreach Worker, Josie Carr says: “We’re very grateful to Cllr Doran for funding the improvements to our garden. We know that some of the families who visit our centre do not have their own garden or a space to learn about growing, so these new additions will help children to be active in the fresh air while growing their own fresh fruit and veg.”
Stanwell SureStart Children’s Centre is managed by local charity, the Surrey Care Trust. The Centre offers a regular programme of daily activities for young families with toys, crafts, messy play, music and outside play all part of the mix. Support starts for parents from pregnancy with help and advice as well as opportunities to meet other parents and participate in adult learning courses to improve skills.
