Peter Heath had great plans for his year as the Club Captain at West Byfleet Golf Club, raising funds for the Club’s chosen charity – The Surrey Care Trust. Sadly, because of the pandemic many of these had to be shelved or modified so Peter took the initiative and decided to set himself a personal goal that also supported a healthier lifestyle. He set himself the target to lose 30 pounds in weight in three months, starting 1st of May.

Members, friends and family got behind Peter in his challenge with encouragement and donations to his JustGiving page. The big day of the final weigh-in arrived on Saturday 1st August when members joined Peter’s family gathered round to witness Peter step on the scales. The 30 pounds target was well beaten as Peter tipped the scales at 18st 1lb – a loss of 32lbs in three months. Just to be sure, Peter repeated the weigh-in on the super accurate scales in the jockey’s weighing room at Sandown Park on Tuesday 4th August – with the same result.

Peter is understandably chuffed: “Not only have I done something about my own health, but with the generous support of 100s of people, we have raised £6,122.75 for the Surrey Care Trust. I know they will put the money to good use supporting vulnerable families in the Woking Area.”

Various other fundraising initiatives will continue at West Byfleet GC for the rest of 2020. Peter’s JustGiving page will remain open for donations until 19th August:
