The garden at Stanwell Family Centre now boasts an improved seating area thanks to two new colourful picnic tables, made possible by Better Neighbourhoods Grants from Spelthorne Borough Councillors, John and Susan Doran (now Deputy Mayor of Spelthorne).
The garden is a safe space within the Stanwell community for families to meet together, socialise and receive support from the Centre’s key workers. The picnic table will allow families to eat together, provide a structure for creative play and create an outdoor meeting place for key workers to talk to parents.
Centre Manager Janette Breese says: “We’re very grateful to Cllrs John and Susan Doran for funding the improvements to our garden. We know that some of the families who visit our centre do not have their own garden and that time spent outside can lead to better mental health, improved sleep, and cognitive, social, and emotional gains for young children. The picnic tables will encourage families to spend time together outside in our garden.”
Stanwell Family Centre is managed by local charity, the Surrey Care Trust. The Centre provides a range of services and support to vulnerable children and young people and their families living in the Stanwell community.
Families from the local community can book times for individual ‘Family Time’ in the garden – email email@example.com. For more information about the Family Centre, visit www.stanwellfamilycentre.org.uk
