Bucketing rain and blustery wind threatened to turn our charity golf event for 2010 into a wash out.
But the golfers who were lined up for the tournament at Hindhead Golf Club on November 11th in aid of Milford-based charity, the Surrey Care Trust, refused to be daunted by the horrible weather and played on through the worst that the elements could throw at them.
“It was spectacularly wet but we were delighted that all the teams took it in their stride and played with such enthusiasm for a good cause,” said events officer Vicky Trust.
After their soaking morning out on the course, which is on sweeping heathland close to Surrey’s border with Hampshire, the hot toddy as they arrived back at the club house, and the roast lunch afterwards tasted even better.
The winning team was captained by Mr Brandy Gill, a former trustee of the Surrey Care Trust. Mr Gill and his fellow players, John Hadley, Leighton Morgan and John Edwards took the Surrey Care Trust Shield.
In second place were Ian Pope, Geoff Carr and Javed Khan from the actuaries and consultants Pope Anderson, and in third place, were David Regan, Matthew Ryder, Chris Foxell and Tony Allen, a team from Mundays Solicitors.
Winner of longest drive was Tony Allen from Mundays and of the nearest the pin was Brandy Gill.
Other companies who entered teams were Morrisons Solicitors, Toshiba, Woking-based business consultancy Kalmia, facilities management company Hillyard Associates.
Morrisons, Kalmia and Toshiba also gave sponsorship and donated raffle prizes.
