Nigel was born in Sunderland and came to London to go to college where he attained a degree in Town Planning. All of his career has been spent in local government and some 35 years of it at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council. Initially as a planning officer, rising through the ranks to be Director of Environment and then from 2001, Chief Executive.
Nigel is well known on the Surrey public sector scene and chaired the Housing, Infrastructure & Environment Board for over two years, one of the Surrey Strategic Partnership's five themes.
Having retired from the Council in May 2010, he is currently working as a consultant for Surrey County Council and has set up his own photography business.
