If only life could be carefree for all young people.

But we know that there are many who are vulnerable, stressed and struggling with all kinds of problems.

We’ve changed the details in the story on the left because we always respect the privacy of our young clients, but it is so typical of the kind of situation in which our counsellors are helping young people who desperately need someone to talk to.

STEPS Counselling is free to anyone aged between 16 and 25 who is facing difficult issues and emotions.

We can’t magic away problems but we listen and support young people in finding their own way forward. Our STEPS Counselling Service has volunteer counsellors and a modest budget.

We need £5,000 this year, so please support our appeal and help keep this service operating and helping.

She’s 16 going on 17, her father left home when she was a toddler, and stopped seeing her when he started a new family.

She adored her step-dad but then last year he died.

She’s been strong for her mum and her little brother, even when, in the midst of all this upset, she was sitting her GCSEs.

She did ok, considering, but she doesn’t know what to do next.

She was too distracted to sort out a college place and she hasn’t got a job.

She wonders why life seems bleak.
