Thank you
The Surrey Care Trust    Celebrating our 30th birthday in 2012

The STEPS Under 16s alternative education and training programme, based at our learning centres at Staines and Woking, gives a second chance to 14 to 16 year-olds who are no longer attending mainstream school.  Many of them will be coping with other problems in their lives and often they will have had extremely poor attendance at their schools, so have missed out on large chunks of education.

We foster their self-belief and confidence, help them improve their literacy and numeracy, develop their skills and knowledge and widen their experience of the world.

The atmosphere at the learning centres is more informal than school but the young people are given clear boundaries and are expected to achieve to the best of their abilities.

Each young person receives a high level of individual attention and works towards accredited qualifications and awards set by two bodies, ASDAN and Open College Network.

The curriculum includes literacy, numeracy, IT and practical lifeskills.

The young people leave better equipped to move on  to work, training or further education.
