Raquela Mosquera works for FACE

My life with the Surrey Care Trust

Raquela was shaking with nerves the first time she contacted the Surrey Care Trust to book a place on a parenting course.

It had been a long time since she had been in anything like a classroom and then it hadn’t been a happy experience because Raquela had found school and learning impossible. She didn’t fit in and was a “difficult” student, constantly in trouble. It was only as an adult that she found out that she was dyslexic and realised that was at the root of her difficulties in education.

So for Raquela, as she was eight years ago, and for many of the adult learners that the Surrey Care Trust works with, the seemingly simple step of signing up for a course is hugely daunting.

But that was then, in 2003, and this is Raquela now, a long-standing member of our staff, working as a development worker for our FACE family and community education programme... More about Raquela’s story...

“I thought I was unemployable, so to a job that I am passionate about is has been really rewarding."
